케임브릿지 사전은 'stonewall'이라는 동사를 "to stop a discussion from developing by refusing to answer questions or by talking in such a way that you prevent other people from giving their opinions(질문에 대답하기를 거부하거나, 다른 사람들이 자신의 의견을 내놓지 못하게 막는 방식으로 이야기함으로써 토론을 막다)"라고 정의했다.

"The interviewer accused the minister of stonewalling on the issue of tax increases(그 인터뷰어는 장관이 세금 인상이라는 이슈에 대해 의사 진행을 방해하고 있다고 비난했다)."

콜린스 사전은 동사 'stonewall'을 이렇게 설명했다.
