[영어 공부] iron out(원활하게 하다, (오해, 장애물 등을) 없애다, 해결[해소]하다)
주름진 옷을 다리미로 다려서 주름을 깨끗이 없애듯, 오해나 장애물, 어려움 등을 없애서 앞길이 '스무스하게' 만드는 게 바로 'iron out'이다.
케임브릿지 사전은 'iron out'을 "to put something into a finished state by solving problems, removing differences, or taking care of details(문제를 해결하거나, 차이를 없애거나, 세부 사항을 챙김으로써 어떤 것을 끝낸 상태로 만들다)"라고 정의했다.
"They met to iron out the details of the contract(그들은 계약서의 세부 사항을 해결하려고 만났다)."
콜린스 사전은 'iron out'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you iron out difficulties, you resolve them and bring them to an end(어려움을 iron out 한다면, 그것을 해결하고 끝내는 것이다)."
"It was in the beginning, when we were still ironing out problems(우리가 여전히 문제를 해결하던 초기에는 그랬다)."
"The various groups had now managed to iron out their differences(다양한 그룹이 마침내 의견 차이를 좁힐 수 있었다)."
맥밀란 사전은 'iron out'을 "to deal successfully with a disagreement or problem, especially by removing the last remaining difficulties(특히 마지막으로 남아 있는 어려움을 제거함으로써 의견 충돌이나 문제를 처리하는 데 성공하다)"라고 풀이했다.
"They’re meeting in Berlin to iron out the final details of the contract(그들은 계약서의 마지막 세부 사항들을 조율하려고 베를린에서 만날 예정이다)."
