케임브릿지 사전은 'translucent'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If an object or a substance is translucent, it is almost transparent, allowing some light through it in an attractive way(어떤 물체가 물질이 translucent하다면, 거의 투명하지만 매력적일 정도로 빛이 일부 통과하게 하는 것이다)"

"translucent plastic/glass(반투명한 플라스틱/유리)"

"This china is so fine and delicate that it's translucent(이 도자기는 아주 곱고 섬세해서 반투명할 정도다)."

콜린스 사전은 'translucent'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If a material is translucent, some light can pass through it(어떤 물질이 translucent하다면 빛이 일부 통과할 수 있는 것이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'translucent'를 "clear enough for light to pass through but not completely clear(빛이 통과할 만큼은 투명하지만 완전히 투명하지는 않은)"라고 풀이했다.
