케임브릿지 사전은 'chicken scratch'를 "writing that is untidy and difficult to read(깔끔하지 않고 읽기 힘든 글씨)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'chicken scratch'를 "very bad handwriting which is difficult to make out(읽기 힘든 아주 형편없는 손글씨)"이라고 설명했다.
