케임브릿지 사전은 'grievance'를 "a complaint or a strong feeling that you have been treated unfairly(당신이 불공평한 대우를 받았다는 불만 또는 강한 느낌)"라고 정의했다.

"A special committee has been appointed to handle prisoners' grievances(재소자들의 불만에 대처하기 위해 특별 위원회가 임명되었다)."

"Bill still harbours/nurses a grievance against his employers for not promoting him(빌은 아직도 그의 고용주가 그를 승진시키지 않은 것에 불만을 품고 있다)."
