케임브릿지 사전은 'spring something on somebody'를 "to suddenly tell or ask someone something when they do not expect it(상대가 예상치 못할 때 갑자기 어떤 것을 말하거나 물어보다)"이라고 정의했다.

"I hope he's not going to spring any nasty surprises on us at the meeting this morning(나는 오늘 아침 회의에서 그가 심술궂게 우리를 놀래지 않기를 바란다)."

롱맨 사전은 'spring something on somebody'를 "to tell someone something or ask them to do something when they do not expect it and are not ready for it(상대가 예상하지 못하고 준비되어 있지 않을 때 상대에게 무엇을 말하거나 어떤 것을 하라고 부탁하다)"이라고 설명했다.
