케임브릿지 사전은 'slog'를 "to work hard over a long period, especially doing work that is difficult or boring(특히 어렵거나 지겨운 일을, 오랜 기간에 걸쳐서 열심히 일하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"I've been slogging away for days on this essay and I'm still not finished(이 에세이를 며칠간 붙잡고 있는데 아직 안 끝났어)."

콜린스 사전은 'slog'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you slog through something, you work hard and steadily through it(어떤 것을 slog through 한다면, 그것을 열심히, 꾸준히 하는 것이다)." 비격식적인(informal) 표현이다.
