케임브릿지 사전은 'walk of life'를 이렇게 정의했다. "When people talk about walk(s) of life, they are referring to different types of jobs and different levels of society(사람들이 walk(s) of life에 대해 이야기할 때, 그들은 다양한 직업과 다양한 사회 수준을 가리키는 것이다)."

"Members of the gym include lawyers, teachers, plumbers, and hairdressers - people from all (different) walks of life(헬스장의 회원들은 변호사, 교사, 배관공, 그리고 미용사 등 온갖 직업의 사람들을 포함한다)."
