케임브릿지 사전은 'bemoan'을 "to complain or express sadness about something(어떤 것에 대해 불평하거나 슬픔을 표현하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Researchers at universities are always bemoaning their lack of funds(대학의 연구원들은 언제나 자금 부족을 한탄한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'bemoan'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you bemoan something, you express sorrow or dissatisfaction about it(어떤 것을 bemoan 한다면, 그것에 대한 슬픔 또는 불만을 표현하는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"Universities and other research establishments bemoan their lack of funds(대학과 다른 연구 기관은 자금 부족을 한탄한다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'bemoan'을 "to complain or say that you are disappointed about something(어떤 것에 대해 불평하거나 그것에 실망했다고 말하다)"이라고 풀이했다.

"teenagers bemoaning the lack of leisure facilities in the town(동네에 여가 시설 부족을 아쉬워하는 십 대들)"
