케임브릿지 사전은 'drop'을 "to become available for people to buy, listen to, or watch, especially using the internet; to make something available like this(사람들이 구입하거나, 듣거나, 시청하기에 가능하게 되다; 특히 인터넷을 통해 그렇게 되다; 이렇게 이용 가능하게 되다)"라고 정의했다.

"It's an exciting time for her, with the tour starting and the record about to drop(지금은 투어가 시작하고 앨범이 출시되는 시기라 그녀에게 아주 신나는 시간입니다)."

"We heard that rapper Dave was about to drop a new album(우리는 래퍼 데이브가 새 앨범을 곧 출시할 거라는 소식을 들었습니다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'drop'이라는 인포멀(informal)한 표현을 'to be released to the public(대중에게 공개되다)"이라고 설명했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'drop'을 이렇게 풀이했다. "If a recording artist drops a new song, album, or video, they release it to the public. You can also say that a new song, album, or video drops(취입한 에술가가 새 노래, 앨범, 또는 비디오 등을 drop 한다면, 그것을 대중에게 공개하는 것이다. 새로운 노래, 앨범, 또는 비디오가 drop한다고도 말할 수 있다)."
