케임브릿지 사전은 'virulent'를 이렇게 정의했다. "A virulent disease or poison is dangerous and spreads or affects people very quickly(virulent한 질병 또는 독은 위험하고 아주 빠르게 퍼지거나 사람에게 영향을 끼치는 것이다)"

"A particularly virulent strain of flu has recently claimed a number of lives in the region(특히 악성인 인플루엔자가 최근 그 지역에서 많은 이의 목숨을 앗아갔다)."

콜린스 사전은 'virulent'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A virulent disease or poison is extremely powerful and dangerous(virulent한 질병 또는 독은 지극히 강력하고 위험한 것이다)."

"A very virulent form of the disease appeared in Belgium(그 질병의 아주 악성인 형태가 벨기에에 등장했다)." 

"...a particularly virulent strain of the virus(...특히 악성인 바이러스)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'virulent'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "a virulent illness is very dangerous, and affects people very quickly(virulent한 병은 아주 위험하며, 사람에게 아주 빠르게 영향을 끼치는 것이다)"

"an especially virulent form of malaria(특히 악성인 형태의 말라리아)"
