케임브릿지 사전은 'only so much'를 "used to say that there are limits to something(어떤 것에 제한이 있다고 말하기 위해 하는 말)"이라고 정의했다.

"There are only so many hours in your working day - you cannot possibly do all the work(하루에 일할 수 있는 시간은 제한돼 있다. 그 많은 일을 혼자서는 다 못 해)."

콜린스 사전은 'only so much'를 "being a limited amount or quantity; up to a certain point or maximum(제한된 양이 있는, 어떤 정도 또는 최대치까지만 할 수 있는)"이라고 설명했다.

"I can eat only so much fruit(나는 과일은 그 정도밖에 못 먹어)"

"just so much that one can do in such a case(그런 경우에 한 사람이 할 수 있는 제한된 양)"

맥밀란 사전은 'only so many/much'를 "used to say that there is only a limited quantity of something(어떤 것에 오직 제한된 양만이 있다고 말하기 위해 하는 말)"이라고 풀이했다.

"There’s only so much that anybody’s brain can handle at any one time(한 번에 사람의 뇌가 처리할 수 있는 양은 한정돼 있다)."

"There are only so many hours in the working day(영업일에 일할 수 있는 시간은 제한돼 있다)."
