케임브릿지 사전은 'duck out of something'을 "to avoid doing something(어떤 일을 하는 것을 피하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"You can't duck out of your responsibilities(네 의무를 피할 순 없어)."

콜린스 사전은 'duck out'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you duck out of something that you are supposed to do, you avoid doing it(당신이 해야 하는 어떤 일에서 duck out 한다면, 그 일을 하는 걸 피하는 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"George ducked out of his forced marriage to a cousin(조지는 친척과의 강제적인 결혼에서 빠져나왔다)."

"You can't duck out once you've taken on a responsibility(어떤 책임을 지기로 했으면 치해선 안 되지)."

맥밀란 사전은 'duck out'을 "to leave a place, especially in a way that is not noticed by other people(특히, 다른 이들이 알아차릴 수 있게 어떤 장소에서 빠져나가다)"이라고 풀이했다.
