케임브릿지 사전은 'swoop'을 "to make a sudden attack on a place or group of people in order to surround and catch them(어떤 장소나 사람들의 무리를 에워싸고 붙잡기 위해 갑작스럽게 공격하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Undercover police swooped on three houses in the city at 5.00 this morning(위장 경찰이 오늘 아침 5시에 시내에 있는 세 곳의 가택을 급습했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'swoop'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If police or soldiers swoop on a place, they go there suddenly and quickly, usually in order to arrest someone or to attack the place(경찰이나 군인이 어떤 장소를 swoop 한다면, 대개 누구를 체포하거나 그곳을 공격하기 위해 그곳에 갑작스럽게, 재빨리 가는 것이다)."

"The terror ended when armed police swooped on the car(그 테러 행위는 무장 경찰이 차량을 급습하자 끝이 났다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'swoop'을 "to make a sudden and unexpected attack on a place(어떤 곳에 갑작스럽게, 예상치 못한 공격을 하다)"라고 풀이했다.
