케임브릿지 사전은 'puny'를 "small; weak; not effective(작은; 연약한; 효과적이지 않은)"라고 정의했다.

"a puny little man(작고 연약한 남자)"

"My car only has a puny little engine(내 차는 오직 조그만하고 약한 엔진이 달렸다)."

"The party's share of the vote rose from a puny 13 percent in the last election to 21 percent this time(그 당의 득표율은 지난 선거 때의 고작 13퍼센트 수준에서 이번에 21퍼센트로 올랐다)."

콜린스 사전은 'puny'를 이렇게 설명했다. "Someone or something that is puny is very small or weak(puny한 어떤 사람 또는 사물은 아주 작거나 약한 것이다)."

"...a lanky, puny youth(...길쭉하고, 연약한 청소년)." 

"The resources at the central banks' disposal are simply too puny(중앙 은행이 이용할 수 있는 자원은 아주 적다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'puny'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "a puny person or animal is small, thin, and weak(puny 한 사람 또는 동물은 작고, 마르고, 연약한 것이다)"
