케임브릿지 사전은 'poach'를 "to persuade someone who works for someone else to come and work for you(다른 사람을 위해 일하는 사람이 당신을 위해 일하러 오도록 설득하다)"라고 정의했다.

"They were furious when one of their best managers was poached by another company(그들은 제일 일 잘하는 매니저들 중 하나가 다른 회사에게 몰래 스카웃되었을 때 이를 알고 분노했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'poach'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If an organization poaches members or customers from another organization, they secretly or dishonestly persuade them to join them or become their customers(어떤 조직이 다른 조직의 일원 또는 고객을 poach한다면, 그들을 자기 편에 들어오라거나 자기들의 고객이 되라고 비밀스럽게, 또는 부정직하게 설득하는 것이다)."
