케임브릿지 사전은 'uncongenial'을 "(of a person) not friendly and pleasant((사람이) 친절하고 유쾌하지 않은)"라고 정의했다.

"Unfortunately I found him almost as uncongenial as his sister(불행히도 나는 그가 그의 누이만큼 호의적이 아니라고 느꼈다)."

콜린스 사전은 'uncongenial'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe a person or place as uncongenial, you mean that they are unfriendly and unpleasant(어떤 사람이나 장소를 uncongenial하다고 묘사한다면, 그들이 불친절하고 불쾌하다는 뜻이다)."

"He continued to find the Simpsons uncongenial bores(그들은 계속해서 심슨 가족들이 호의적이지 않은 지루한 사람들이라고 생각했다)." 

"Hollywood was an uncongenial place to work(할리우드는 일하기에 호의적이지 않은 곳이다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'uncongenial'을 "not sympathetic or compatible(동정적이지 않거나 양립될 수 없는)"이라고 풀이했다.
