케임브릿지 사전은 'heavy-handed'를 "using too much force in dealing with someone(누구를 대하는 데 너무 큰 물리력을 행사하는)"이라고 정의했다.

"The protestors accused the police of using heavy-handed tactics(시위자들은 경찰이 가혹한 전술을 사용했다는 혐의를 제기했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'heavy-handed'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If someone is heavy-handed with something, they use too much of it or use it in a clumsy way(어떤 사람이 어떤 것과 heavy-handed하다면, 그것을 너무 많이 사용하거나 그것을 어설프게 사용하는 것이다)."
