케임브릿지 사전은 'awash'를 "having an amount of something that is very large or larger than necessary or wanted(아주 많은, 또는 필요하거나 원하는 것보다 더 많은 양을 가진)"라고 정의했다.

"The city is awash with drugs and the police are powerless to do anything about it(그 도시는 마약이 넘쳐나고, 경찰은 그에 관해 어떤 것도 할 힘이 없다)."
