[영어 공부] goings-on((이상한·놀라운·부정직한) 행위[일])

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'goings-on'을 "strange, unusual, humorous, or unsuitable events or activities(이상하거나, 특이하거나, 유머러스하거나, 적절하지 않은 사건 또는 활동들)"라고 정의했다.

"There've been a lot of strange/odd goings-on in that house recently(그 집에 최근 이상한 일들이 아주 많이 있었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'going-on'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe events or activities as goings-on, you mean that they are strange, interesting, amusing, or dishonest(사건이나 활동을 goings-on이라고 묘사한다면, 그것들이 이상하거나, 흥미롭거나, 즐겁거나, 부정직하다는 뜻이다)."

"The girl had found out about the goings-on in the factory(그 소녀는 그 공장에서 벌어지는 일들에 대해 알아냈다)." 

"...strange goings-on between Cantrell and his men(...캔트럴과 그의 부하들 사이에 일어나는 이상한 일들)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'goings-on'을 "activities or events that are strange, surprising, or dishonest(이상하거나, 놀랍거나, 부정직한 활동 또는 사건들)"라고 풀이했다.

"There were some strange goings-on next door last night(지난밤 옆집에서 이상한 일들이 있었다)."
