케임브릿지 사전은 'indomitable'을 "used to say that someone is strong, brave, determined, and difficult to defeat or frighten(어떤 사람이 아주 강인하고, 용감하고, 단단히 마음을 먹었으며, 패배시키거나 겁먹게 하기 어려운 사람을 가리킬 때 쓰는 말)"이라고 정의했다.

"The indomitable Mrs Furlong said she would continue to fight for justice(불굴의 펄롱 여사는 정의를 위해 계속 싸우겠다고 말했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'indomitable'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone has an indomitable spirit, you admire them because they never give up or admit that they have been defeated(어떤 사람이 indomitable한 정신을 가졌다고 말하면, 그들이 절대 포기하거나 패배했다고 인정하지 않기 때문에 그들을 존경하는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)하고 긍정적인(approval) 뉘앙스이다.

"...a woman of indomitable will(...불굴의 의지를 가진 여자)." 

"He was utterly indomitable(그는 절대 의지를 굽히지 않았다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'indomitable'을 "not willing to accept defeat, even in a difficult situation; very brave and determined(어려운 상황에도 불구하고 패배를 인정하지 않는; 아주 용감하고 단단히 마음먹은)"라고 풀이했다.
