케임브릿지 사전은 'imperious'를 "unpleasantly proud and expecting to be obeyed(불쾌할 정도로 오만하고 타인이 자신의 명령을 따를 것을 기대하는)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'imperious'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe someone as imperious, you mean that they have a proud manner and expect to be obeyed(어떤 사람을 imperious라고 묘사한다면, 그들이 오만한 태도를 가지고 있으며 타인이 자신의 명령을 따를 것을 기대한다는 뜻이다)."
