케임브릿지 사전은 'hoity-toity'를 "behaving as if you are better or more important than other people(자신이 다른 사람들보다 더 낫거나 더 중요하다는 듯이 행동하는)"이라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'hoity-toity'를 "arrogant or haughty(거만하거나 오만한)"라고 설명했다.

"we have had enough of her hoity-toity manner(우리는 그녀의 거만한 태도를 충분히 참아 줬다)"

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'hoity-toity'를 "behaving in a way that suggests that you think you are more important than other people(자신이 다른 사람들보다 더 중요하다고 생각한다는 것을 보여 주는 방식으로 행동하는)"이라고 풀이했다.
