케임브릿지 사전은 'misrule'을 "bad government that shows no justice or fairness(정의나 공정함을 보이지 않는 나쁜 정부)"라고 정의했다.

"She blamed her country's economic collapse on 40 years of communist misrule(그녀는 자국의 경제 붕괴를 40년간의 공산당 실정의 탓으로 돌렸다)."

콜린스 사전은 'misrule'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to someone's government of a country as misrule, you are critical of them for governing their country badly or unfairly(어떤 사람의 국가 정부를 misrule이라고 표현한다면, 그들이 국가를 나쁘게 또는 불공정하게 통치한다는 사실을 비판하는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"He was arrested last December, accused of corruption and misrule(그는 부패와 실정 혐의를 받아 작년 12월에 체포되었다)." 

롱맨 사전은 'misrule'을 "bad government(나쁜 정부)"라고 풀이했다.

"The country has suffered years of misrule by a weak and corrupt government(그 나라는 나약하고 부패한 정부에 의한 실정을 수 년간 겪었다)."
