콜린스 사전은 'look the other way'를 "to deliberately ignore something unpleasant, immoral, or illegal that is happening when you should be trying to deal with it or stop it from happening(지금 일어나고 있는, 불쾌하거나 부도덕하거나 불법적인 일을 처리하거나 일어나지 못하도록 멈추려고 노력해야 할 때 그것을 고의적으로 무시하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Stolen goods are sold unashamedly in broad daylight but you tend to look the other way and mind your own business(도난당한 물품이 뻔뻔하게 대낮에 판매되었으나 사람들은 보통 이를 무시하고 자기 할 일을 한다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'look the other way'를 "to deliberately ignore something bad that is happening(일어나고 있는 나쁜 일을 고의적으로 무시하다)"이라고 설명했다.

"You can’t just look the other way if you know that he’s stealing things(그가 물건을 훔치고 있다는 걸 안다면 모르는 척하면 안 되지)."
