케임브릿지 사전은 'clendestine'을 "planned or done in secret, especially describing something that is not officially allowed(비밀스럽게 계획되거나 행해지는, 특히 공식적으로 허가되지 않은 것을 묘사할 때 그러한)"라고 정의했다.

"The group held weekly clandestine meetings in a church(그 그룹은 교회에서 매주 비밀스러운 만남을 가졌다)."

"He has been having a clandestine affair with his secretary for three years(그는 3년간 그의 비서와 비밀스러운 불륜 관계를 맺어 왔다)."

"She undertook several clandestine operations for the CIA(그녀는 CIA를 위해 은밀한 작전을 몇 번 수행했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'clanedestine'을 이렇게 설명했다. "Something that is clandestine is hidden or kept secret, often because it is illegal(clandestine 한 것은 대개 불법적이기 때문에 숨겨지거나 비밀로 여겨지는 것이다.)."
