케임브릿지 사전은 'traction'을 "the fact of an idea, product, etc. becoming popular or being accepted(어떤 아이디어나 제품 등이 유명해지거나 인정받는 사실)"라고 정의했다.

"In our digital age, it takes less time for new words and phrases to gain traction than it did in the past(우리 디지털 시대에는, 새로운 단어와 표현이 인기를 얻는 데 과거보다 시간이 더 적게 걸린다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'traction'을 "the support or interest that is needed for something to make progress or succeed(어떤 것이 진척되거나 성공하기 위해 필요한 지지 또는 관심)"라고 설명했다.

"a product that is starting to gain traction among consumers(고객들 사이에서 인기를 얻기 시작한 제품)"
