케임브릿지 사전은 'bow out'을 "to leave a job or stop doing an activity, usually after a long time(대개 오랫동안 하던 일을 떠나거나 어떤 활동을 멈추다)"이라고 정의했다.

"She'll be bowing out at the end of the month, after hosting the programme for eight years(그녀는 이번 달 말에, 8년간 그 프로그램을 진행한 이후, (그 자리에서) 물러날 것이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'bow out'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you bow out of something, you stop taking part in it(어떤 것에서 bow out 한다면, 그것에 참여하기를 그만두는 것이다)."
