케임브릿지 사전은 'the upshot'을 "something that happens as a result of other actions, events, or decisions(다른 행동, 사건, 또는 결정의 결과로 일어나는 어떤 것)"라고 정의했다.

"The upshot of the discussions is that there will be no layoffs(토의의 결론은 정리 해고는 없을 거라는 것입니다)."

콜린스 사전은 'upshot'을 이렇게 설명했다. "The upshot of a series of events or discussions is the final result of them, usually a surprising result(일련의 사건 또는 토론의 upshot은 그것들의 최종 결과, 대개는 놀라운 결과를 말한다)."

"The upshot is that we have lots of good but not very happy employees(결론은 우리에게 능력 있는 직원은 많지만 그들이 별로 행복하지 못하다는 것입니다)." 

"So the upshot is we're going for lunch on Friday(결과는 금요일에 점심을 먹으러 간다는 것이다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'upshot'을 "the result of a process or an event(어떤 과정이나 사건의 결과)"라고 풀이했다.

"The upshot was that he was banned from driving(결과적으로 그는 운전을 금지당했다)."
