케임브릿지 사전은 'grill'을 "to ask someone a lot of questions for a long time(오랜 시간 동안 어떤 이에게 많은 질문을 물어보다)"이라고 정의했다.

"After being grilled by the police for two days, Johnson signed a confession(경찰에게 이틀이나 심문을 당한 뒤, 존슨은 자백 진술서에 서명했다)."

"Her parents would grill her about where she'd been(그녀의 부모는 그녀가 어디에 있다 왔는지를 닦달해 물을 것이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'grill'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you grill someone about something, you ask them a lot of questions for a long period of time(어떤 사람에게 어떤 것에 대해 grill 한다면, 긴 시간 동안 그들에게 질문을 많이 하는 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.
