케임브릿지 사전은 'timely'를 "happening at the best possible moment(가능한 한 가장 적절한 순간에 일어나는)"라고 정의했다.

"a timely reminder(시기적절하게 상기시켜 주는 것)"

"The change in the exchange rate provided a timely boost to the company's falling profits(환율 변화는 그 기업의 수익 저하에 시기적절한 부양책을 제공해 주었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'timely'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A timely event happens at a moment when it is useful, effective, or relevant(timely한 사건은 그것이 유용하거나, 효과적이거나, 관련이 있을 때 일어나는 것이다)." 아주 긍정적인(approval) 어감이다.

"The recent outbreak is a timely reminder that this disease is a serious health hazard(최근 (병의) 발발은 이 질병이 건강에 심각한 위험이라는 점을 시기적절하게 상기시켜 준다)." 

"The exhibition is timely, since 'self-taught' art is catching on in a big way(그 전시는 '독학한' 예술이 크게 인기를 얻고 있기 때문에 시기적절했다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'timely'를 "happening at the most suitable time(가장 적절한 때에 일어나는)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Thanks to the UN’s timely intervention, a crisis was avoided(UN의 시기적절한 개입 덕분에 위기를 모면했다)."

"In timely fashion, Di Canio scored just before half time(시기적절하게 디 카니오는 하프타임 직전에 득점했다)."
