케임브릿지 사전은 'recount'를 "to describe how something happened, or to tell a story(일어난 일을 묘사하다, 또는 이야기를 하다)"라고 정의했다.

"He recounted his adventures since he had left home(그는 집을 떠난 이후로 그가 겪은 모험에 대해 이야기했다)."

"He was fond of recounting how he had played professional football when he was 19(그는 자신이 19살 때 어떻게 프로 선수로 풋볼을 했는지 이야기하기를 좋아했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'recount'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you recount a story or event, you tell or describe it to people(어떤 이야기나 사건을 recount 한다면, 그것을 타인에게 이야기하거나 묘사하는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"He then recounted the story of the interview for his first job(그러고 나서 그는 첫 일자리릉 얻기 위해 면접을 보았던 일을 이야기했다)."
