케임브릿지 사전은 'propensity'를 "the fact that someone is likely to behave in a particular way, especially a bad way(어떤 사람이 특히 나쁜 식으로, 특정한 방식으로 행동할 가능성이 높다는 사실)"라고 정의했다.

"She's inherited from her father a propensity to talk too much(그녀는 아버지로부터 말을 많이 하는 성향을 물려받았다)."

"He's well-known for his natural propensity for indiscretion(그는 무분별한 행동을 하는 타고난 성향으로 잘 알려져 있다)."

콜린스 사전은 'propensity'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A propensity to do something or a propensity for something is a natural tendency that you have to behave in a particular way(어떤 것을 하는 proprensity나 무엇을 (하는; for) propensity는 당신이 특정한 방식으로 행동해야 하는 타고난 성향을 가리킨다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"Mr Bint has a propensity to put off decisions to the last minute(빈트 씨는 결정을 마지막 순간까지 미루는 경향이 있다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'propensity'를 "a natural tendency to behave in a particular way(특정한 방식으로 행동하는 타고난 성향)"라고 풀이했다.
