케임브릿지 사전은 'take the plunge'를 "to make a decision to do something, especially after thinking about it for a long time(어떤 것을, 특히 그것에 대해 오랫동안 생각해 본 이후로 하기로 결정하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"They're finally taking the plunge and getting married(그들은 오랫동안 생각해 본 이후 마침내 결혼하기로 결정했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'take the plunge'를 "to resolve to do something dangerous or irrevocable(위험하거나 변경할 수 없는 일을 하기로 결심하다)"이라고 설명했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'take the plunge'를 "to finally do something important, difficult, or dangerous after thinking about it(중요하거나 어렵거나 위험한 일을 생각해 본 이후 마침내 실행하다)"이라고 풀이했다.
