케임브릿지 사전은 'send someone/something up'을 "to make someone or something seem stupid by copying him, her, or it in a funny way(어떤 사람 또는 사물을 웃기게 흉내내서 멍청해 보이게 만들다)"라고 정의했다.

"The show was very funny - they were sending up sports commentators(그 쇼 엄청 웃겼어 - 그들이 스포츠 해설자들을 흉내내고 있었거든)."

콜린스 사전은 'send up'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you send someone or something up, you imitate them in an amusing way that makes them appear foolish(어떤 사람 또는 사물을 send up 한다면, 그들이 바보스럽게 보이게, 웃기게 흉내내는 것이다)." 영국식(British)이고 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.
