케임브릿지 사전은 'potshot'을 "a criticism(비평)"이라고 정의했다.

"The recent criticism of his leadership has included potshots from several leading political journalists(그의 리더십에 관한 최근의 비평은 몇몇 가장 중요한 정치 저널리스트들의 비평을 포함한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'potshot'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A potshot is a criticism of someone that may be unexpected and unfair(누군가에 관한 potshot은 예기치 못하고 불공평한 비평이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"...Republicans taking potshots at the president(...대통령을 비판하는 공화당원)."

롱맨 사전은 'take a pot shot at somebody/something'을 "to criticize someone or something unfairly without thinking carefully about it(주의깊게 생각해 보지 않고 어떤 사람 또는 사물에 관해 비판하다)"이라고 풀이했다.
