케임브릿지 사전은 'shenanigans'를 "secret or dishonest activities, usually of a complicated type(대체로 복잡한 종류의, 비밀스럽거나 부정직한 활동들)"이라고 정의했다.

"Like many local governments in the state, the county has a long history of political shenanigans(그 주에 있는 많은 지역 정부들처럼, 그 자치주는 정치적 속임수의 긴 역사를 가지고 있다)."

"More business shenanigans were exposed in the newspapers today(더 많은 사업적 속임수가 오늘 신문에서 폭로되었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'shenanigans'를 이렇게 설명했다. "You can use shenanigans to refer to rather dishonest or immoral behaviour, especially when you think it is amusing or interesting(다소 부정직한 또는 비도덕적인 행위, 특히 그것이 즐겁거나 흥미로울 때 이를 shenangians이라는 단어를 사용할 수 있다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.
