케임브릿지 사전은 'scare something up'을 "to find or get something despite difficulties or limited supplies(어려움이나 제한된 공급에도 불구하고 어떤 것을 찾거나 얻다)"라고 정의했다.

"There's hardly any food in the house, but I'll scare something up from these leftovers(집 안에 음식은 거의 없지만, 남은 음식으로 뭐든 만들어 볼게)."

콜린스 사전은 'scare up'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you scare up something, you provide, produce, or obtain it, often when it is difficult to do so or when you do not have many resources(어떤 것을 scare up 한다면, 대개 그렇게 하기 어렵거나 자원이 많지 않을 때 그것을 제공하거나, 생산하거나, 얻는 것이다)."
