케임브릿지 사전은 'hash something out'을 "to talk about something with someone else in order to reach agreement about it(어떤 것에 대해 합의에 도달하려고 상대와 그에 대해 이야기하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"You two hash out the details of the presentation(자네 둘이 프레젠테이션의 세부 사항에 대해 논의하게)."

콜린스 사전은 'hash out'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If people hash out something such as a plan or an agreement, they decide on it after a lot of discussion(사람들이 계획이나 합의에 대해 hash out 한다면, 길게 논의한 이후 그에 대해 결정을 내리는 것이다)."

"The House and Senate are to begin soon hashing out an agreement for sanctions legislation(상원 의원들은 곧 인가법 제정에 대한 합의 논의를 시작할 예정이다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'hash out'을 "to discuss something carefully and completely in order to reach an agreement or decide something(합의에 도달하거나 어떤 것을 결정하기 위해 세심하고 완전하게 논의하다)"이라고 풀이했다.

"We still need to hash out the details of the contract(우리는 여전히 계약의 세부 사항에 대해 논의할 필요가 있습니다)."
