케임브릿지 사전은 'clamber'를 "to climb up, across, or into somewhere with difficulty, using the hands and the feet(손과 발을 이용해 어렵게 어디를 오르거나, 건너가거나, 들어가다)"라고 정의했다.

"They clambered over/up the rocks(그들은 암벽을 기어올랐다)."

"I clambered into/onto the bus(나는 버스에 기어올랐다)."

"She clambered into bed(그녀는 침대에 기어 들어갔다)."

콜린스 사전은 'clamber'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you clamber somewhere, you climb there with difficulty, usually using your hands as well as your feet(어딘가로 clamber 한다면, 대개 발뿐 아니라 손을 이용해 애를 써서 올라가는 것이다)."
