케임브릿지 사전은 'in cahoots (with)'를 "acting together with others for an illegal or dishonest purpose(불법적인 또는 부정직한 목적을 위해 다른 이들과 단체 행동을 하는)"라고 정의했다.

"A banker and a government minister were in cahoots over a property deal(은행가와 정부 공무원이 부동산 거래에 공모했다)."

"It's reckoned that someone in the government was in cahoots with the assassin(정부에 있는 누군가가 암살자와 공모한 것으로 여겨진다)."

콜린스 사전은 'in cahoots'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that one person is in cahoots with another, you do not trust the first person because you think that they are planning something secretly with the other(어떤 사람이 다른 사람과 in cahoots with 한다면, 그 첫 번째 사람이 타인과 무언가 비밀스러운 일을 계획하고 있다고 생각하기 때문에 그를 믿지 않는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 "be in cahoots (with somebody)"를 "to be planning or doing something dishonest with somebody else(다른 사람과 부정직한 것을 계획하거나 하다)"라고 풀이했다.
