케임브릿지 사전은 'commensurate'를 "in a correct and suitable amount compared to something else(다른 것에 비교해서 정확하고 적절한 양으로)"라고 정의했다.

"I am looking for a salary that is commensurate with my skills and experience(나는 내 기술과 경력에 어울리는 연봉(을 가진 일자리)을 찾고 있다)."

콜린스 사전은 'commensurate'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If the level of one thing is commensurate with another, the first level is in proportion to the second(어떤 것의 수준이 다른 것과 commensurate하다면, 첫 번째의 수준이 두 번째의 것과 비례하는 것이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.

"Employees are paid salaries commensurate with those of teachers(직원들은 교사들의 연봉과 상응하는 연봉을 받는다)."

"Managers saw a commensurate fall in their revenues(매니저들은 그에 상응하는 액수가 수익에서 하락하는 것을 목격했다)."
