케임브릿지 사전은 'solemnization'을 "the act or process of solemnizing a marriage (= performing the official ceremony)(결혼식을 거행하는 행위 또는 과정)"라고 정의했다.

"The Act of Parliament regulates the solemnization of marriages in England(의회 제정법은 영국 내에서 결혼식이 거행되는 것을 규제한다)."

"Solemnization by the church was not required by the state as the condition of a legitimate marriage(결혼식을 올리는 것은 국가가 요구한 적법한 결혼의 조건이 아니다)."

콜린스 사전은 'soleminize'를 "to celebrate or perform the ceremony of (marriage)(결혼식을 올리거나 행하다)"라고 설명했다.
