케임브릿지 사전은 'blip'을 "a temporary change that does not have any special meaning(특별한 의미가 없는 일시적인 변화)"이라고 정의했다. 

"Last month's rise in inflation was described by the chancellor as only a blip(지난달의 인플레이션 증가를 장관은 '일시적인 변화'라고 묘사했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'blip'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A blip in a situation is a sudden but temporary change or interruption in it(어떤 상황의 blip은 갑작스럽지만 일시적인 변화 또는 그것의 중단을 말한다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'blip'을 "​a change in a process or situation, usually when it gets worse for a short time before it gets better; a temporary problem(대개 좋아지기 전에 짧은 시간 동안 나빠지는, 어떤 과정 또는 상황 내의 변화; 일시적인 문제)"이라고 풀이했다.
