케임브릿지 사전은 'rejoinder'를 "a quick and often angry or humorous answer(재빠르고 대체로 화가 났거나 유머러스한 대답)"라고 정의했다.

"She always has a witty rejoinder to/for any question(그녀는 언제나, 어떤 대답에든 위트 있게 응수했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'rejoinder'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A rejoinder is a reply, especially a quick, witty, or critical one, to a question or remark(rejoinder는 특히 재빠르고, 위트가 있거나 비판적인, 질문 또는 발언에 대한 대답이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.
