케임브릿지 사전은 'exemplar'를 "a typical or good example of something(어떤 것의 전형적인 또는 좋은 예시)"이라고 정의했다.

"It is an exemplar of a house of the period(그것은 그 시대 주택의 전형이다)."

"I’ve never regarded myself as an exemplar of virtue(나는 스스로를 미덕의 전형이라고 생각해 본 적이 단 한 번도 없어)."

콜린스 사전은 'exemplar'를 이렇게 설명했다. "An exemplar is someone or something that is considered to be so good that they should be copied or imitated(exemplar는 아주 좋아서 다른 이들이 복제하거나 흉내내야 한다고 여겨지는 것이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.

"They viewed their new building as an exemplar of taste(그들은 그들의 새로운 건물의 (좋은) 취향의 모범이라고 보았다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'exemplar'를 "a person or thing that is a good or typical example of something(어떤 것의 좋은 또는 전형적인 예인 사람 또는 사물)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Her career was an exemplar of individual success at a time of great economic hardship(그녀의 커리어는 경제적으로 크게 어려운 시기에 개인의 성공을 보여 주는 전형적인 사례다)."
