케임브릿지 사전은 'snooty'를 "behaving in an unfriendly way because you believe you are better than other people(자신이 다른 사람보다 낫다고 믿기 때문에 불친절하게 행동하는)"이라고 정의했다.

"She was one of those really snooty sales assistants that you often find in expensive shops(그녀는 대개 비싼 상점들에서 보는, 아주 오만한 점원 중 하나였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'snooty'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone is snooty, you disapprove of them because they behave as if they are superior to other people(어떤 사람이 snooty하다고 말한다면, 그들이 다른 사람보다 우월하다고 믿기에 그들을 못마땅하게 여기는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'snooty'를 "treating people as if they are not as good or as important as you(다른 사람들이 자신만큼 좋거나 중요하지 않다는 듯 대하는)"라고 풀이했다.
