케임브릿지 사전은 'canny'를 "thinking quickly and cleverly, especially in business or financial matters(특히 사업이나 금융 문제에 있어서 생각이 재빠르고 교묘한)"라고 정의했다.

"These salesmen are a canny lot(그 판매원들은 약삭빠른 족속이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'canny'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A canny person is clever and able to think quickly. You can also describe a person's behaviour as canny(canny한 사람은 교묘하고 재빠르게 생각할 수 있는 사람이다. 사람의 행위 또한 canny라고 묘사할 수 있다)."
