케임브릿지 사전은 'voluminous'를 이렇게 정의했다. "A voluminous piece of writing is long and detailed(voluminous한 글은 길고 상세한 것이다)"

"Have you read McClelland's voluminous account of his life?(맥클릴랜드의, 방대한 자기 인생 이야기(=회고록) 읽어 봤어?)"

콜린스 사전은 'voluminous'를 이렇게 설명했다. "Something that is voluminous is very large or contains a lot of things(voluminous한 것은 아주 크거나 많은 것을 포함하는 것이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.

"...a voluminous trench coat(...크나큰 트렌치 코트)." 

"The FBI kept a voluminous file on Pablo Picasso(FBI는 파블로 피카소에 관한 방대한 파일을 가지고 있었다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'voluminous'를 "​(of a piece of writing, a book, etc.) very long and detailed((글, 책 등이) 아주 길고 상세한)"라고 풀이했다.

"There is voluminous literature on modernism and post-modernism(모더니즘과 포스트-모더니즘에 대한 방대한 문학이 있다)."
