케임브릿지 사전은 'entre nous'를 "used when telling someone something that is secret and should not be told to anyone else(어떤 것이 비밀이며, 다른 사람에게 이야기해서는 안 된다고 말할 때 하는 말)"라고 정의했다.

"He told me - and this is strictly entre nous - that he's going to ask Ruth to marry him(그가 나한테 말해 줬는데, 이거 완전 우리 사이의 비밀이야. 그가 루스에게 청혼할 거라지 뭐야)."

콜린스 사전은 'entre nous'를 "between ourselves; in confidence(우리 사이에서만; 비밀로)"라고 설명했다.

롱맨 사전은 'entre nous'를 "used humorously to tell someone that what you are going to say is secret and they must not tell anyone else(이제 당신이 할 말은 비밀이며 다른 사람에게 말해서는 안 된다고 말할 때 유머러스하게 쓰는 말)"라고 풀이했다.
